Who We Are

BlueMarble Weather LLC ("BlueMarble," "we," "us," or "our") is an agricultural technology company based at the University of Illinois Research Park in Champaign, Illinois. We are developing the Microclimate WX precision agriculture weather intelligence platform.

This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, share, and protect information when you visit our website at bluemarbleweather.com (the "Website") and, when available, use our Microclimate WX platform and related services (the "Platform").

Understanding key terms used throughout this policy

Agricultural Data

Information generated by or relating to agricultural operations, including but not limited to field-level weather observations, soil measurements, equipment telemetry, crop management records, yield data, and input application records.

Personal Information

Information that identifies, relates to, describes, or could reasonably be linked to you as an individual, such as your name, email address, phone number, or precise geolocation.

Anonymized Data

Data that has been processed so that it cannot reasonably be used to identify a specific individual, farm, or field, either alone or in combination with other available information.

Platform User

Any individual or entity that accesses or uses the Microclimate WX platform.

Cooperative

An agricultural cooperative organization that partners with BlueMarble to offer services to its members.

Cooperative Program Data

For participants in cooperative pilot programs, we anticipate collecting additional data subject to separate cooperative data governance agreements:

  • Cross-validation datasets comparing sensor readings with operational outcomes

All cooperative program data will be governed by specific data use agreements executed prior to any data collection. Participation is voluntary.

Agricultural Data Ownership

Farmer-First Principles

BlueMarble Weather is committed to farmer-first data governance. The following principles will govern all Agricultural Data collected through the Platform and cooperative programs. These commitments align with the AG DATA TRANSPARENT Core Principles established by the American Farm Bureau Federation.

Ownership

You retain all ownership rights to Agricultural Data you provide or that is generated by sensors deployed on your land. BlueMarble does not claim ownership of your Agricultural Data.

Limited License

By using the Platform, you grant BlueMarble a limited, non-exclusive, revocable license to use your Agricultural Data solely for delivering and improving the services you have requested. This license terminates upon account termination.

Anonymization and Aggregation

BlueMarble may create Anonymized Data derived from Agricultural Data for improving weather models, conducting research, and enhancing platform capabilities. You may opt out at any time by contacting [email protected].

AI and Machine Learning

We may use Anonymized Data to train and improve AI weather models. We will not use individually identifiable Agricultural Data for AI/ML model training without your explicit consent. You may opt out of Anonymized Data use for AI/ML training.

No Sale of Agricultural Data

We will not sell individually identifiable Agricultural Data to any third party. Period.

Data Portability

You may request a copy of your Agricultural Data in a machine-readable format. We will fulfill portability requests within 30 business days.

Transparency

We will provide clear notice before making material changes to how your Agricultural Data is collected, used, or shared.

Cooperative Data Governance

For Agricultural Data shared through cooperative partnerships, the cooperative retains oversight of member data governance. Specific terms will be established in cooperative data governance agreements that respect local ownership and cooperative values.
